burgercake?!

Here's the cake that Kieran & I actually ended up making together for the threadcakes competition. The login feature & entry forms on the website were only created yesterday so I've made an account but haven't actually submitted my entry yet.
You have to write your "cake story" & I'm having some trouble, I don't want it to be long & boring, but trying to be funny & charasmatic isn't really working for me.

I like this picture. Even if my hair is a mess.

Threadcakes

So, I've been thinking about possible entries for the threadcakes competition, just flicking through the current threadless shirts for inspiration & these are the one's I've found so far:

This one would be pretty easy. Just have to make a tower of cake & then carve a little pointy bit on top, cover in fondant & cut the red bits out of colours fondant and stick them on, & then pipe on the face.
& then for the cookie, I could either use and actual cookie, or just a bit of round cake..
I don't know about the arms & legs though?

This is actually the back of a t shirt (one that is currently waiting in my virtual threadless basket until I can afford it) called AV. So for this I would just make a square cake, ice it with black fondant or royal icing & then pipe all the detail on I 'spose. It would be fiddley and take a lot of time but I think I could do it. Possible a bit boring though? I'm not sure..

This one's called 'deforstation', & out of all of them I think this would probably be the easiest. A green cake with half tiny little trees & half just little black dots. I could easily make tiny trees out of that icing that comes in blocks of four colours? I can't remember what its called on the box. Buuuuutttt again, it might be kinda boring?

fiiiiinally, the last one in my current list. It caight my attention because a burger is essentially the same shape as a cake. meaning I could just make a few cakes, layer them, & then cut a small bit out where the mouth is open. all the tomatoes & lettuce & also the tongue I can make out of icing. I don't know about the teeth though?

The competition closes on the 1st of July I think? Which means I've got a week. So .. wish me luck? (:

we're going onn a bearrrr hunt...

Today is westmill. Which means camping. Which means that bear hunt song is in my head ahaa.
I didn't actually know westmill was this weekend until a few days ago, which means I haven't had any time to panic about it much, so I'm actually quite looking forward to it.
A good was of easing myself into the whole festival season before Sonisphere and Reading. :/

So yeah, heading off into the wilderness (kinda) for a weekend. Byyeeeeeee (:

Geek Chic

Today I went to the optitions & had my first everrrr eye test.
It's weird, all the stuff they make you do. "read this.. look at this light .. can you see the green or the red clearer?.. let my shine this right in your eyes.. is the circle clearer now, or now?.."
But anyway, even though I went because of headaches while reading & on the computer, she said that we most likley caused by stress and there was nothing she could do ( |: ) but that I needed glasses for long distance. Driving, telly, school, stuff like that.

So, after trying on practically every pair of designer glasses in the shop, I ended up going with the first pair I tried on which also happened to be one of the cheapest pairs in the shop aha.
So yeah .. going to pick them up in two weeks :/

Sunday 7 June 2009

Forever thine, forever mine, forever ours.

This morning I watched the Sex in the City movie. My mum went to see it when it came out in the cinema, so even though I'd never seen it I knew what happened, but it was still a beautiful film.

One of the reoccuring ideas throughout the films, is love letters. Near the begining of the film when Carrie & Big are in bed together, Carrie is reading a copy of "Love letters of Great Men" & reads some of them aloud to Big including a letter by Beethoven to his "immortal beloved".
After watching the films, the idea of love letters stayed with me & I went on amazon to see if I could find the book, thinking in the back of my mind that the chick-flick had sparked some kind of unique, romantic notion is me. However, scrolling down the page, I saw this:

In a way, it almost ruined it for me. But I'm still going to buy the book.

owowowowowwww

I think I've broken my toe. Lovley.
Well ... seeing as I can't walk. there goes any plans I might have had for today.

I don't care if I'm being a baby, I don't care if it's not even broken.
It really frickin' hurts.

Saturday 6 June 2009

I'm gonna dance like nobodys watchin', I'm gonna sing like no ones listenin'..

I drew this yesterday when I was having coffee with Jane and we were discussing plans for Kieran's birthday cake. Which I have yet to practice making. I kinda wish I hadn't drawn myself so much taller than him :/ aha. & that I'd made us look like more of a couple, but these things don't occur to you when you're just absent-mindedly doodling, do they?

I also wish my hair looked this good in real life.

*sighhh*

Today, I am starting on the impossible task of clearing out my room. & I don't just mean tidying, I mean actually throwing stuff away and making space |:
It's going to be a lot harder than it sounds. I mean, this is what it currently looks like:& that doesn't even do it justice.

difficult days

I keep feeling really light headed & getting head aches & my eyes keep hurting and going out of focus. My mum thinks it's because I look at the computer screen too much & told me not to go on my laptop for a while. I didn't aaaall day yesterday & seeing as I had nothing else to do it was a challenge. I think it did help a bit, but I've snuck back on for five minutes.

Yesterday wasn't a good day; stress & anxiety getting to me again. I had to answer the door to the postman while I was crying, aha. But today I feel a bit better.

I'm going to meet Jane in a few hours for coffee to discuss plans for Kieran's birthday cake, & also probably the general state of affairs. As much as I'm looking forward to it, I'm worried about leaving the house for the first time in three days.

untitled

Sometimes I feel like there's something wrong with me, like I can't feel things properly.
Everything comes all at once in swirls of colours, mixing together into sludge.
I feel emotionally stunted. & emotionally drained.

freedom (:

fiiiiiinally all my exams are over and I have a week & a half of long empty days. lovelyyyy (: So I can actually get around to crossing things off my to-do list:

Decide what I'm going to make for Kieran's birthday cake, & practice it.
Do some sketches & stuff, & then paint Kieran's birthday portrait thing.
Make his other present (: & buy a few extra things for him.
Catch up with some friends, like Pi.
Clear out my junk ): I'm starting to worry that Kieran might leave me if I don't do it, or at least stop coming to my house.
Send off the negatives from my Diana to be made into prints.
Get some 35mm black & white film for the old SLR that my dad gave me.
Take the portaits of my brothers & I that my mum wants for the living room.
Go shopping!!
Catch up on reading. I've got tonnnnss to get through.
Finish off the two paintings that have been hanging around in my room for months.
Get my provisional driving liscence.
Finish my wall - I think I might have enough bits & pieces waiting around.
Go to the Royal Academy summer exhibition
Do something nice for Russell, I'm not sure what yet.
Either fix my sewing machine, or get a new one.
Upload some CDs that have been lying around for a while & give them back to Kieran.
Teach scout to roll over.

& probably some other things .. :/
lots to do, ahaa
